It's less than 1.00%!

Ok, today I received my paycheck and I don't even open it. I really don't open any of my checks so I really don't know what bi-weekly pay looks like. That's bad because the establishment could be jipping me and I wouldn't even know until I go to pay my bills.

Shortly after receiving the check I receive an email stating that our raises from 2008 are reflected in this current check. NOW I'm excited! I'm ripping off the perforations, busting the check open all wrong, 'cause I don't know how, and I look at the total. I don't see a difference.

So I go online to look at my bank account to see what my salary usually is.

The difference is $10.35

I'm grateful, I really am. But I'm not excited. People were doing back flips after reading the email. Cartwheels over the book trucks. You could hear hooping and hollering in the hallways. Clearly we did not see the 0.##%, we just saw raise. I received an IM from one of my buddies. He says "Yeeeeaaaaa! A raise!" My reply was - "You can't be serious!"

Yes we library workers are some starving folk and since we're unionized, we don't receive annual salary increases. :( I knew exactly what I was getting into when I entered this profession. So we just wait out the 3 to 4 years for an increase and go berserk for the large retroactive check. However, next pay period we're supposed to receive our retroactive monies. I guess then I'll join the masses, doing back spins on the library floor.

My oh my. I work in a library, and though I am not a "librarian" I put the books away and help patrons and what not.
Well, now that I've started college, I'm actually making minimum wage and when I saw that on my paycheck I was tempted to do a few back flips--until I realized that they only had me working once a week, and it was only for Christmas break--which means $62 bi-weekly for me.
I'm thankful for that, I am, but I decided that I wasn't going to do any flips because I may injure myself and my paycheck wouldn't cover it.

I feel you! I work in K-12 Education and we are going through budget cuts. So, our annual "step" increase in salary is only going to cover the difference in our healthcare that is not being covered by the budget.

Oh Happy Day! But, at least I still have a job.

Kiaya... I am soooooooo grateful! I really am. We have budget cuts & some jobs are outsourced but Thank God, I still have my job. They just tripped me up with that RAISE email.

Kalyn... LOL - I started out as a Page so I know exactly what you're talking about. As a page, I received an itty bitty check which hardly covered my itty bitty bills and school books & had no health insurance... I KNOW!

Kay C... You feel me! LOL
The last time we received a raise was in 2005 & that 2% was to last us 4 years. I am grateful for my $10.35, it could have been a deduction. It was hella funny in here when we all looked at our checks. We all had looks that said "What Raise?"

Is the difference $10.35 or .35 cents?

Mike... the difference in my check is $10.35. Why? Are you trying to say that's a lot? I already said that I'm grateful. I betcha tryin' to make me feel bad...?

Lol, no I am saying when you say the difference I am thinking they gave you 10.35 added on to your pay rate per hour.

LOL
Mike, I wish they added an extra $10.35 to the pay rate. That would be marvelous in this crisis. Nope they just added $10 extra to my bi-weekly check, $5 extra a week...

I felt the same way when I got my raise a year ago. It only increased my pay by $6! I'm grateful but $6000 would have been better. LOL
